“Passed” vs. “Past”

“Passed” is the past tense of “to pass” (as in “He passed by yesterday”). “Past” is an adjective, an adverb, and a noun, but it’s never a verb. Here are some examples: “It’s half past twelve.” “He drove past the building.” “I regret the past.”

“Besides the point”

The term is “beside the point” (not “besides the point”). The idea is that the point is right here, in front of you, but what you’re talking about is over there, off to your left, beside the point. If anyone out there knows Suze Orman, please let her know.
